ABSTRACT

Featured Application: Collapsing cavitation bubbles can be used in material surface cleaning, the medical field, and so on. By adjusting the micro-jet intensity of the collapsing bubbles, the cavitation phenomenon can be employed to clean irregular material surfaces, such as sections, cracks, and vegetable leaves. In the medical field, cavitation bubbles can be used as microbubble contrast agents for ultrasound diagnostic imaging or vehicles for drug or gene delivery. The growth and violent collapse of cavitation bubbles can also be employed in sterilization or killing viruses such as COVID-19. The interaction mechanism between the cavitation bubble and a solid wall is a basic problem in bubble collapse prevention and application. In particular, when bubble collapse occurs near solid walls with arbitrarily complex geometries, it is difficult to efficiently establish a model and quantitatively explore the interaction mechanism between bubbles and solid walls. Based on the advantages of the lattice Boltzmann method, a model for cavitation bubble collapse close to a solid wall was established using the pseudopotential multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model. Solid walls with arbitrarily complex geometries were introduced in the computational domain, and the fractal dimension was used to quantify the complexity of the solid wall. Furthermore, owing to the lack of periodicity, symmetry, spatial uniformity and obvious correlation in this process, the Minkowski functionals-based morphological analysis method was introduced to quantitatively describe the temporal evolution of collapsing bubble profiles and acquire effective information from the process. The interaction mechanism between the bubble and solid wall was investigated using evolutions of physical fields. In addition, the influences of the solid walls' surface conditions and the position parameter on collapsing bubbles were discussed. These achievements provide an efficient tool for quantifying the morphological changes of the collapsing bubble. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Since computed tomography (CT) provides the most sensitive radiological technique for diagnosing COVID-19, CT has been used as an efficient and necessary aided diagnosis. However, the size and number of publicly available COVID-19 imaging datasets are limited and have problems such as low data volume, easy overfitting for training, and significant differences in the characteristics of lesions at different scales. Our work presents an image segmentation network, Pyramid-and-GAN-UNet (PGUNet), to support the segmentation of COVID-19 lesions by combining feature pyramid and generative adversarial network (GAN). Using GAN, the segmentation network can learn more abundant high-level features and increase the generalization ability. The module of the feature pyramid is used to solve the differences between image features at different levels. Compared with the current mainstream method, our experimental results show that the proposed network achieved more competitive performances on the CT slice datasets of the COVID-19 CT Segmentation dataset and CC-CCII dataset. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic posed huge hurdles to green economic recovery and the tourism sector. This paper examines challenges in the Zhejiang, Fujian, and Shandong provinces of China' coastal tourism and green economic growth in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. To assess this impact, the study used econometrics models based on the Chinese provincial data from March 2020 to April 2021. According to the results, coastal tourism's related income fell drastically regardless of where the people live. Fisherman's earnings dropped by 26%, while captains and owner's earnings dropped by 49% on average. This also resulted in a shortage of food supply that endangered food security. During the pandemic, the number and duration of tourism trips dropped in all study locations. In addition, results indicated that in the wake of COVID-19, lower economic growth and recessions resulted in a significant decline in green investments. The paper proposes that to achieve green recovery and the recovery of the tourism sector, the local and central governments need to increase green investments and the literacy of the people in charge of coastal tourism.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a global impact and is spreading quickly. ChuanKeZhi injection (CKZI) is widely used in asthma patients. In this paper, we aimed to explore active compounds of CKZ and determine potential mechanisms against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) through network pharmacology, molecular docking and dynamic simulation studies. Materials and Methods: We used the Systematic Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCMSP) to screen active compounds and potential target proteins of CKZ. COVID-19 target genes were screened via the American National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) gene database and human gene database (GeenCards). The protein interaction network was constructed by the Protein Interaction Network Database (Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/Proteins (STRING)) platform. GO enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed by the Metascape database. The main active compounds of CKZ were docked with angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), spike protein S1, and SARS-CoV-2-3CL pro and also docked with hub targets. We performed molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies for validation. Results: We finally obtained 207 CKZ potential targets and 4681 potential COVID-19 targets. Key targets included mainly AKT1, TNF, IL6, VEGFA, IL1B, TP53, JUN, CASP3, etc. There were 217 Gene Ontology (GO) items in the GO enrichment analysis (p < 0.05). The main KEGG pathways included the advanced glycation end products (AGE)- receptor for AGE (RAGE) signalling pathway in diabetic complications, rheumatoid arthritis, chemical carcinogenesis-receptor activation, alcoholic liver disease, etc. Molecular docking and dynamics simulation studies both exhibited great binding capacity. Conclusions: Network pharmacology, molecular docking and dynamics simulation studies were used to identify the potential and key targets, pharmacological functions, and therapeutic mechanisms of CKZI in the treatment of COVID-19. CKZI may be an effective and safe drug in COVID-19 treatment. However, further work is needed for validation.

ABSTRACT

Studying the COVID-19 pandemic differs from past studies on emergency management because this crisis event, compared with the terrorist attack or natural disasters, unfolds in a longer period and with a wider spread of geographic regions. This study explores what and how the information was communicated in the corporate strategic communication through social media across three phases of the global public health crisis, including the early phase, shelter-in-place phase, and reopening phase. The content analysis on corporate Twitter accounts of selected publicly listed firms in the US suggests that corporate social media communication is functional, information-based, direct, and of lower richness during the earlier phase of the pandemic. As the pandemic evolves, corporate tweets, though still functional, are altered to improve customer engagement via the addition of videos and embedded links. For low media richness data formats, the replies/retweet ratio is less than 20%, while high media richness data formats produce the replies/retweet ratio of more than 50%. Implications for future research and practices are offered. © 2022 The Author(s). Published with license by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

ABSTRACT

Amid rising COVID-19 stringency measures, sedentary behavior has been intensified globally, leading to intense chronic diseases. Due to the potential health benefits associated with digital wearables, there is a dire need to explore the crucial determinants for consumers, which could enhance the usage of sports wearables in addressing health challenges. For this purpose, a novel conceptual framework was developed, and Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed on the primary data of 463 consumers from China. The results revealed a positive association of consumer innovativeness, perceived credibility, perceived ease in using sports wearables, perceived usefulness in using sports wearables, social influence for sports wearables, health benefits, and hedonic motivation for sports wearables during COVID-19 with the adoption intention of sports wearables. The study findings offer valuable policy recommendations to minimize COVID-19 health risks by efficiently monitoring consumers’ health status. Copyright © 2022 He, Shang, Ajaz, Nureen and Sukstan.

ABSTRACT

With the 5G worldwide deployment, the scale of vertical applications is innovated benefit from 5G technologies including MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing), network slicing, etc. Especially for healthcare, 5G had been used for COVID-19 protection and intelligent medical processing. However, limited by the hospital's traditional information infrastructures, those 5G-based healthcare applications are hard to be deployed and most only for demonstration, also isolated from the existing medical systems. So what is the next generation of smart healthcare information infrastructures is the key issue for the long-term development of 5G healthcare applications. Even though the standardized 5G MEC framework has been widely used in many vertical scenarios, it is also hard to satisfy hospital-specific requirements such as hospital-dedicated deployment, medical data security, and various network connections, etc. This paper proposes a 5G-based architecture for smart healthcare information infrastructure, a new network element iGW (industry gateway) is defined, and the smart healthcare dedicated cloud platform iMEP (industry multi-access edge platform) is also introduced here, making it possible to satisfy both the hospital-specific requirements and the long-term evolution. Meanwhile, the implementation methodology and the corresponding field test results are presented, which show the significant network performance gain achieved by the proposed new system structure.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has affected billions of lives around the world since its first outbreak in 2019. The computed tomography (CT) is a valuable tool for the COVID-19 associated clinical diagnosis, and deep learning has been extensively used to improve the analysis of CT images. However, owing to the limitation of the publicly available COVID-19 imaging datasets and the randomness and variability of the infected areas, it is challenging for the current segmentation methods to achieve satisfactory performance. In this paper, we propose a novel boundary-assisted and discriminative feature extraction network (BDFNet), which can be used to improve the accuracy of segmentation. We adopt the triplet attention (TA) module to extract the discriminative image representation, and the adaptive feature fusion (AFF) module to fuse the texture information and shape information. In addition to the channel and spatial dimensions that are mainly used in previous models, the cross channel-special context is also obtained in our model via the TA module. Moreover, fused hierarchical boundary information is integrated through the application of the AFF module. According to experiments conducted on two publicly accessible COVID-19 datasets, COVID-19-CT-Seg and CC-CCII, BDFNet performs better than most cutting-edge segmentation algorithms in six widely used segmentation metrics. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
